Panthers Pull Away in 2nd Half Behind 3-Point Shooting

SOUTH POINT — Whatever the Chesapeake Panthers did at halftime they need to keep doing it.

Leading by just 4 points at the half, the Panthers came out in the second half and outscored the South Point Pointers by 20 points en route to a 66-42 Ohio Valley Conference win on Thursday.

The Panthers made 5 of their 7 3-pointers in the second half to fuel the offensive explosion.

Five different players scored 3 points as Chesapeake took a 10-8 first quarter lead.

Hanshaw hit a 3-pointer and had 5 points and Landon Vance added 3 more for South Point’s total

The Panthers (4-0, 4-0) went up 25-21 at the half as Philip Thacker and Karson Frecka scored 5 points each and Drew Plantz hit a 3-pointer.

Hanshaw had 4 more points and Ethan Layne connected on a 3-pointer for South Point (2-4, 2-2).

Chesapeake came out hot in the third quarter and outscored the Pointers 19-9 to build a 44-30 cushion. 

Ethan Kerns drilled a pair of 3-pointers, Plantz had 5 points including a trifecta and

Kazee also hit a 3-pointer.

Vance had 5 points including a 3-pointer.

The Panthers continued to build on their momentum as they outscored the Pointers 22-12.

Kazee scored 8 points, Kaden Perkns got 6 and the Panthers converted 7-of-8 from the foul line.

Hanshaw scored 7 points including a 3-pointer and Davon Lewis added a trey.

Kazee scored 15 points, Plantz 12 and Thacker 11 to pace the Panthers’ offense.

Hanshaw had a game-high 18 points to pace the Pointers while Vance added 10 points.
