FRANKLIN FURNACE — Extra baseball is never a bad thing.
An RBI single by Noah McMackin in the bottom of the tenth capped off a 3-2 comeback win for the Green Bobcats over the Portsmouth Clay Panthers on Monday night in an Southern Ohio Conference tilt.
McMackin finished 2-4 at the plate and drove in 2 runs — both turning out to be the tying and winning runs. McMackin's final hit brought in Blake Smith to cap off the win.
Jon Knapp went 2-5 with an RBI. Mason Neal went 2-3 and Landon Kimbler had a hit.
The game featured strong pitching performances from both teams. Green pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts, while the Panthers fanned 11.
Kimbler picked up the win for Green, coming in to relieve Knapp in the ninth. Kimbler ended up allowing a hit, a walk and striking out two in his two innings of work.
Knapp got a no-decision, but still struck out 16 batters in eight innings and allowed 3 hits and an earned run.
The Panthers were first to crack into the scoring column in the fifth when Cade Munion grounded out, but scored a run in the process.
Clay later added to their lead in the sixth to make it 2-0.
The Bobcats answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to one.
McMackin tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a single down the left field line and sent the game into extra innings.
Both teams were held scoreless during the next two innings before the Bobcats finally capped off the comeback in the tenth.
Zane Ball took the loss for the Panthers after coming in during the eighth inning in relief for Evan Rider.
Rider tallied two of Clay's four hits and an RBI. Aidyn Schackart and Derick Oliver each recorded a hit.
