Martin's Multi-Homer Game Lifts Lady Tigers Past Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — Martin left the Portsmouth Lady Trojans a-smartin’.

Khalil Martin slammed a pair of home runs and drove in 3 runs as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat Portsmouth 8-5 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.

Martin went 2-2  as Ironton collected 9 hits en route to the win. Layla Townsend was 2-5 with a double, Miley Bias 1-3 with 2 RBI, Ryleigh Kouns 2-3 with an RBI and a double, and Braegan Thomas was 2-4 with an RBI.

Townsend got the complete game win as she gave up 10 hits, 3 earned runs with 9 strikeouts and no walks.

Portsmouth (2-6, 1-2) had 10 hits as Judah Malone was 2-2 with a double, Karlee Galloway 2-4 and Caitlyn Galloway was 2-4.

Katie Ankrom took the loss as she went the distance, giving up 9 hits with 4 strikeouts and 8 walks.

Ironton (8-1, 4-0) opened up a 6-0 lead by scoring 3 runs in each the first and second innings.

Ironton’s defense helped Portsmouth to score 4 runs in the third inning. The Lady Fighting Tigers’ were guilty of 5 errors in the game.

But Ironton added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to lead 8-4.

Portsmouth added a run in the bottom of the sixth.
