LYNCHBURG — From the frying pan to the fire.
The St. Joseph Flyers opened the season against one of the top teams in Southeast Ohio and lost 4-2.
The Flyers followed up that game up with a visit to traditional power Lynchburg-Clay and dropped another hard-fought battle 6-5 on Saturday.
The Flyers went a head 3-1 to start the game before the Panthers came back to create a nip-and-tuck finish.
St. Joseph took a 1-0- lead on a goal by Carson Lyons off a nice crossing pass from Texas Jack Whaley less than 8 minutes into the game.
The lead went to 2-0 when Whaley made a goal on an assist in the middle of the box by Mason Weber.
The Panthers got on the board as Quinn Wells scored unassisted with 12:50 on the clock.
Lyons scored to make it 3-1 off a crossing feed from the right side by Weber with 3:12 to go in the half.
Quinn Willis answered for the Panthers to get within 3-2 with 3:00 left in the half.
The Flyers extended the lead to 4-2 less than two minutes into the second half as Lyons scored again with an assist from the right side by Whaley.
But the Panthers took over as Elam Faust scored unassisted with 26:06 on the second half clock and he followed that with a penalty kick with 23:54 showing on the clock that tied the game.
Faust scored his third straight goal with 13:41 left and Wells got an unassisted goal with just under 5 minutes left to give Lynchburg-Clay a 6-4 lead.
Whaley scored an unassisted goal as he rebounded a shot on goal off the upright.
