Late Home Run Lifts Blue Angels Past Lady Dragons

CENTENARY — It all came down to the end.

Ava Angel hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Gallia Academy Blue Angels a 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Lady Dragons on Wednesday.

Fairland (0-6, 0-2) outhit the Blue Angels 15-6 but struggled to put enough hits together to score more runs.

Gallia Academy (5-1, 1-0) went up 1-0 in the first when Chloe Bennett tripled and Maggie Davis reached on an error.

Fairland went up 3-1 in the top of the third.

Aubrey Hayes singled and Taegan Leep doubled to start the inning. Katie Dehart doubled for an RBI and Jordan Spencer singled in the final run.

Gallia tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a hit by Bennett, Angel’s double and a passed ball.

The Blue Angels went up 4-3 in the fourth when Reagan Skidmore walked, moved up on Kaylie Crisenbery’s sacrifice, stole third and scored on a missed third strike.

The Lady Dragons tied the game in the fifth on a double by Leep and hit by Leep.

Gallia got the walk-off win in the seventh when Sarah Thomas singled, Sophie Harris reached on an error and Angel clubbed a 3-run homer.

Spencer was 3-4 with 3 RBI and a double to pace the Fairland offense. Leep and Dehart were 2-4 with a double, and Clark, Taliaferro and Ava Thacker were all 2-3.
