AID — There’s an episode of Impractical Jokers where the punishment has Sal Vulcano playing a virtual reality game and as the game draws to an end he keeps saying, “Quit. Quit. Quit.”

The game finally quits which is unlike the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

In nearly a half-dozen games  this season, the Lady Vikings have trailed late only to rally to win.

The Lady Vikings “Never Say Die” attitude took center stage again as they rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge the South Point Lady Pointers 6-5 on Wednesday.

“There’s no quit in this bunch,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We seem to be playing a little blah in the middle innings, but then in the seventh inning they just flipped the switch.”

Brenna Tibbs got the win as she struck out 10, walked four and only one run was earned.

“Tibbs wasn’t as sharp as usual. She had trouble with her control. But she kept battling. There’s no quit in her, either,” said Estep.

Kota Copley took the loss as she struck out four and walked four.

Symmes Valley (24-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Tibbs and Emma Ridenour walked, moved up on a wild pitch. Marley Ferguson hit a sacrifice fly and Lindsey Freeman singled and an outfield error on the play scored Ridenour.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second when Natalie Simpson singled and an outfield error got her to second and she came around to score on a pair of wild pitches.

South Point (14-8) finally came to life in the sixth inning and rallied to take a 4-3 lead.

Kaylee Stidham walked, Saratina Jackson was safe on an error, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Jaidyn Malone had an RBI single, Kyleigh Castle was safe on an error, Allie Stidham had an RBI single and Kota Copley got a 2-run single.

The Lady Pointers added a run to the lead in the top of the seventh when Addison Copley was safe on an error, stole second and came home on a double by Kaylee Stidham.

But the Lady Vikings mounted a 3-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to get the walk-off win.

Simpson and Addie Ridenour singled, Autumn Justice was safe on an error, and Tibbs walked to load the bases. Emma Ridenour walked to force in a run and Ferguson followed with a 2-run single to end the game.

Simpson was 2-3 as the Lady Vikings had 7 hits.

Copley was 3-4 with 2 RBI and Kaylee Stidham 1-3 with a double and RBI for the Lady Pointers.

Symmes Valley plays Latham Western in the district tournament at 4 p.m. on Monday at the University of Rio Grande.
