Lady Vikings clutch up to beat Pickerington North - (Video)

AID — When the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings found their backs to the wall, they came out swinging.


The Lady Vikings needed to make big plays at the plate and in the field as they rallied to beat the Pickerington North Lady Panthers on Saturday in the annual Valley of Thunder Softball Classic.

“We got a couple of clutch hits and we made some really great plays on defense when we needed it. They kids really played well,” said Estep.


“Tibbs came in with some clutch pitching, Natalie Simpson made about four great plays at first base and we turned a big double play in the sixth inning.”


Tibbs pitched 4.1 innings in relief and gave up just one hit and no runs with 5 strikeouts and no walks.

Pickerington North (4-9) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With one out, Addison Mickey walked, stole second and came home on a double by Julia Deely.


But the Lady Vikings tied the game in the second on a solo home run to centerfield by Emma Ridenour.


The Lady Panthers regained the lead in the third.


Makenna Hartley walked, stole second and Mariah Dent singled her home to give the Lady Panthers a 2-1 lead.


But Symmes Valley (13-1) took the lead with 2 runs in the fourth.


Ferguson singled, Emma Ridenour was walked and Alyssa Waugh singled home a run. Natalie Simpson was safe on an error as the second run scored.

“I just had to get it in play. I was just looking to hit the ball,” said Simpson. “We just had to keep believing in each other and continue playing and having fun.”


The Lady Vikings got an insurance run in the sixth when Ferguson led off with a home run.

Tibbs came on in relief in the third inning as she worked 4.1 innings, gave up one hit, no runs, struck out 5 and did not walk a batter.


Symmes Valley had just 5 hits with Ferguson going 2-3 with a home run.
