Lady Hornets take down Lady Panthers on senior night

COAL GROVE — It was a senior night Abbie Deeds and Rylee Black won’t soon forget.
The pitching battery for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets had a memorable senior night as Deeds pitched a perfect game and Black caught Deeds’ second straight perfect game in a 12-0 run rule Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
Deeds — who struck out all 15 batters in a win over Fairland on Monday — struck out 12 in pitching her perfection. Black was 1-3 with a run batted in.
Coal Grove (12-3, 9-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Izzy Kitts singled with 2 outs, stole second and scored when Black reached on an error. Mia Haynes followed with an RBI single.
The lead went to 5-0 in the second inning.
Brianna Malone was safe on an error, Deeds was hit by a pitch and Kitts had a 2-run single.
Coal Grove put the game away with 7 runs in the third inning with a 2-out rally.
Braelie Hitchcock walked, Malone was safe on an error, Taylor Endlich had an RBI single, Deeds walked and Kendall Taylor had a bases-clearing double.
Kitts was hit by a pitch and Black singled and an error on the play scored the runners as well as Black.
Taylor went 2-3 with a double and 4 RBI, Kitts was 2-2 with 2 RBI and both Haynes and Endlich were 1-2 with an RBI.
Chesapeake fell to 6-14 and 1-9 in the OVC.
