Lady Hornets get key road win over Blue Angels

CENTENARY — There’s nothing like a big win, especially when it’s a road win.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets picked up a key road win as they beat the Gallia Academy Blue Angels 5-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
The OVC leaders jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning.
Abbie Deeds singled and scored on Izzy Kitts' double. Rylee Black doubled home Kitts and scored on Rylee Bare’s base hit.
The Blue Angels (8-6, 3-5) got a run in the fourth when Colbie Nida doubled and scored when Reagan Skidmore reached on an error.
Coal Grove (9-3, 6-1) extended its lead to 5-1 in the sixth.
Mia Haynes drew a one-out walk and scored when Braelie Hitchcock singled and an outfield error allowed her to go home. Kendall Taylor then followed with an RBI single.
The Blue Angels got a run in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Gabby Champlin and Kaylie Crisenbery.
Deeds pitched a 4-hitter as she struck out 15, walked 2 and only one run was earned. She also went 2-4 with a double.
Kitts was 2-4, Black 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Taylor 2-3 with an RBI as Coal Grove got 12 hits.
