RUSSELL, Ky. - The Kiwanis Club of East Greenup County, Ky. has a special offer for high school and college track and cross country team members who would like to run on Saturday June 14 in the 48th annual Kiwanis Run By The River.

All area high school and college track and cross country team members are invited to run the 5K or 10K races for a special rate of $20.

“I know we have track and cross country runners in this area who can burn this course up,” said RBTR race director Tim Gearhart. “The club hopes this special rate will entice them to come out and be a part of the oldest continuously operated road races in Kentucky.”

The races are set for Saturday, June 14. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the races start at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Russell.

Registration tables are located in the parking lot of the Russell Senior Center. Races start in front of the fire station on Bellefonte Street. Runners turn on Clinton toward the Ohio River, then back along the river to Houston, behind the fire station to Ferry, then down the river road toward Worthington. 5K runners turn around and come back to Russell, while 10K runners proceed to Worthington and back.

Registration for others is $30 by June 11; $35 thereafter and on race day. The $20 special for students runs through race day. All runners will receive a shirt by mail about 10 days after the races. Trophies and medals are given following the races.

The club decided to bring back several races-within-the-race for the 5K only. Categories brought back include a Stroller Division, Canine Division and Wheelchair Division with trophies to the top two finishers in each division. Trophies will go to the top two finishers in four family categories: 5K father/son, 5K father/daughter, 5K mother/daughter and 5K mother/son.

Trophies also go to the top two overall finishers in the 5K and 10K races, both male and female divisions, and first, second and third place medals go to the top finishers of age categories, both male and female and 5K and 10K, starting with ages 10-14 and running in five year increments to 80 and over.

All runners 9 and under will receive a medal as will 5K walkers

For those unable to be at the live race, the club is doing a separate Virtual Run By The River which allows you to run at your leisure. Registration for the virtual races are at https://tristateracer.com/race/13012. When runners complete their race they need to report their times to the site.

Registrations for the live race can be completed on either Tri-State Racer or Chronotrack web sites by using either of these links: https://tristateracer.com/race/13014 or https://register.chronotrack.com/r/86256.
