Ironton's Blankenship earns medalist honors at D2 boys golf district, advances to state tournament

CIRCLEVILLE — Three seemed to be the key number in the Division 2 district golf tournament at Crown Hill Golf Club on Wednesday.


Ironton missed a second straight trip to the state tournament by just 3 shots but senior Carson Blankenship was the medalist by 3 shots and will advance to the state tournament as an individual.


The top two teams and top two individuals not on the qualifying teams also advance to the state tournament.


The Division 2 boys’ state tournament will be held Oct. 6-7 at the NCR Country Club South Course in Kettering.

Westfall won the tournament with a 322 team score. Lynchburg-Clay was next with a 324 score and Ironton was next at 327.


Jaxon Hughey of Circleville was tied for second at 76 and qualified for the state tournament. The other golfer at 76 was Nolan Wilkin of the qualifying team Lynchburg-Clay.


Blankenship shot rounds of 37 and 36 for his 73 score. Asher Keyes shot 40-41 for an 81, Silas Keyes had an 87 on rounds of 42 and 45, Graham Walters shot 56-43 for a 99 and Beckett Heighton was at 86 with identical rounds of 43.


Circleville finished 4th at 330 followed by Fairfield Union at 340, Gallia Academy 343, the Fairland Dragons 346, West Union 348, Meigs 364 and Coal Grove shot a 381.


Seniors E.B. Hall and Kiyan Page both shot an 83 to lead the Dragons. Hall went 40-43 and Page 41-42.


Will Southard shot 39-46 for an 85, Hunter Leep was 45-50 for a 95 and Kyle Salyer shot rounds of 45 and 51 for a 96.


Coal Grove was led by Jayden Webb with a 90 on rounds of 43 and 47. Joel Beals went 43-50 for a 93 score, Colin Harmon and Matthew Aldridge each shot a 99 and they both had rounds of 47 and 52, and Carson Hicks shot 102 on rounds of 52 and 50.
