PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Ironton Fighting Tigers had never been to Shelby Valley before Saturday night.

They must have really liked it because they spent the entire night in Shelby Valley territory.

Ironton had eight possessions of which nine started in Wildcats’ territory and one other possession resulted in a kick return for a score as the Fighting Tigers spiked the Wildcats 63-0.

“The main thing is we stayed healthy. Guys want to score every play and I get it, but we want to finish with a great pad level and learning to punish people at the end of a run,” said Pendleton.

Ironton used a kickoff return by Maddix Markel to start the game at the Vikings 40.  Two plays later, Tyler Carmon went 14 yards for the score and Beckham Waginger kicked the first of seven conversions.

A short put gave Ironton the ball at the 37. After a 2-yard loss, Kayden Edwards and Brycen Mullins clicked on a pop pass as Mullins ran the distance and it was 14-0.

The defense created the field position on the next possession. While the famous Fred the Baker said it was time to make the donuts for Dunkin’ Donuts, Ironton’s Braydon Baker said it was time to make a big play and he picked off a pass and returned it to the Wildcats’ 16.

The drive lasted all of one play as Kylan Grace ran for his first Ironton touchdown on his first carry and it was 21-0 with 7:57 on the clock.

After another punt, Ironton had the ball at the 43. A 34-yard catch-and-run by Baker got the ball to the 9 where Carmon breezed into the end zone and it was 28-0 with 4:33 left in the first quarter.

Ironton got one more score to end the quarter as Edwards and freshman Easton Caudill teamed up on a 12-yard pop pass and it was 35-0 which started the running clock.

Edwards bolted 45 yards on Ironton’s first play of the second quarter to make it 42-0.

Forcing another punt, Tyson Harvey returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown and the Fighting Tigers built a 49-0 halftime lead.

Special teams produced the next score as Joey Weaver scored on a block punt return and David Fields’ conversion kick made it 56-0.

The final touchdown came on a one-play drive as Grace scored from 33-yards out and Fields' extra point kick set the final score.

Due to creating a short field, Ironton only had 233 total yards but the defense held Shelby Valley to a mere 17 total net yards.

Edwards was 3-of-5 passing for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran twice for 43 yards and a score. Grace had 3 rushes for 49 yards and two TDs.

Ironton will host its 4th Annual Gridiron Classic on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers will face Liberty Christian of Virginia.

The schedule has Mt. Carmel of Chicago playing Cincinnati Moeller at 1 p.m. followed by Middletown of Delaware vs. Columbus Bishop Watterson at 4:30 and ending with Ironton at 8 p.m.
