Huge scoring spree from Issacs, Layne delivers Lady Panthers win at Pizza Classic

KENOVA, W.Va. — The Dynamic Duo were, well, dynamic.
Abbey Isaacs and Ava Layne combined for 54 points as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers knocked off the Tolsia Lady Rebels 69-47 at the Evaroni’s Pizza Classic in the Ceredo-Kenova Community Center on Monday.
Isaacs had a game-high 29 points and Layne was close behind with 25.
Isaacs scored 9 points including a 3-pointer as the two teams matched points and it was 18-all at the end of the first quarter.
Jacey Crum hit a 3-pointer and scored 11 points for Tolsia.
But Layne drilled a 3-pointer and scored 10 points and Isaacs added 6 more including another trifecta and the defense held Tolsia to 6 points to give the Lady Panthers a 36-24 halftime lead.
The Lady Panthers (7-2) continued to pull away in the third quarter by outscoring Tolsia 26-14 and built a 62-38 cushion.
Layne and Isaacs scored 12 points each to lead the offensive explosion.
Crum hit another trey and had 7 of Tolsia’s 14 points in the quarter.
Ciera Nichols came off the bench to hit a 3-pointer while Abby Mitchell added a basket for Chesapeake in the fourth quarter.
Payten Johnson hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points for Tolsia.
Crum led Tolsia (3-4) with 19 points.
Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill on Friday, Jan. 2.
