Four Hit Double Figures As Ironton Advances To District Semis

IRONTON — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers have been on a hot streak lately.

On Thursday, they stayed hot.


Ironton placed four players in double figures as they routed the New Lexington Lady Panthers 67-48 in the first round of the Division 5 district tournament.


The Lady Fighting Tigers have won five in a row and six of their last eight games.


Emerson White knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers balanced offense.


Lola Hankins added 13 points and 6 rebounds, sister Jolee Hankins had 12 points and 7 rebounds, Lexi McCall got 10 points and 8 rebounds while point guard Peyton Deer just missed double figures with 8 points.


Chloe Dick scored 28 points for New Lexington and eclipsed the 1,000 career point milestone in the second quarter. Also in double figures was Makenzy McCoy with 13 for the Lady Panthers (9-13).


Ironton (11-11) will now play No.2 seeded Fairland on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. in the Waverly Downtown Arena.

White got Ironton started with a 4-point play and a 3-point play for a 7-4 lead.


New Lexington tied the game at 11-all on a layup by Layla Baker but McCall made a layup and White hit back-to-back 3-pointers as Ironton took a 21-15 first quarter lead.


Ironton led 29-19 on a layup by McCall and 31-21 as Jolee Hankins sank two free throws. Deer finished off the half with a layup as Ironton led 33-21 at the break.


McCoy scored to start the second half but Lola Hankins’ layup, Jolee Hankins’ two free throws and another trifecta from White opened up a 40-24 lead.


Jolee Hankins’ 3-point play made it 58-36 but Dick hit two free throws and it was 58-38 to end the third quarter and Ironton coasted to the win.


Ironton plays a makeup game at Rock Hill on Saturday.
