Flyers blank Tartans; Rowe reaches milestone in win

IRONTON — Along with a combined one-hit shutout, the Saint Joseph offense was 10 out of 10 on Tuesday evening as the Flyers beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 10-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
The Tartans were unable to muster up any offense, as both Beckham Waginger and Carson Willis combined to strike out six batters and one hit in the shutout win. Waginger got the start and picked up the win.
Offensively, the Flyers got 10 hits for 10 runs.
Landon Rowe went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in, Evan Aldridge went 2-3 and 2 RBIs, Waginger went a perfect 3-3, Carson Willis had a double and an RBI, Ian Whaley had a single and an RBI, Mason Weber had a base hit, and Carson Lyons had an RBI.
Rowe also earned a major milestone in the win, reaching 100 career stolen bases.
The senior led off the bottom of the first with a single into left. Then immediately stole second on the next pitch and went in standing to hit the career milestone.
It was Rowe's second-straight night of eclipsing the century mark, as he scored his 100th career run during the Flyers win over Portsmouth Clay on Monday.
The Flyers set the tone in the first with Rowe and Weber reaching base. Then Aldridge smacked a triple into right-center to drive home both runners. Aldridge scored two pitches later on a grounder hit by Lyons to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead after one.
Some excitement came at the plate in the third, when Willis doubled into left, scoring Aldridge from second. But Willis was able to reach third on the throw-in, and then found himself in a run down and managed to evade being tagged out to score on his own accord to give the Flyers a 6-0 lead.
Kaiden Huston had the Tartans lone hit of the game, when he singled off a 1-1 pitch to lead off the third.
The win gives Saint Joseph a 7-5 record overall and 4-4 in SOC play.
