COAL GROVE — Just call her Abbie K. Deeds.
In baseball and softball, K is the symbol for a strikeout and Coal Grove senior Abbie Deeds struck out all 15 batters she faced for a perfect game as the Lady Hornets blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 10-0 in a 5-inning Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Deeds threw just 70 pitches of which 51 were strikes. Of the 15 strikeouts, 13 were swinging.
Coal Grove (11-3, 8-1) got the only run it needed in the first inning as Deeds led off with a hit, stole second, took third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
The lead went to 3-0 in the second on singles by Mia Haynes, Braelie Hitchcock, Kendall Taylor and Brianna Malone.
The lead ballooned to 8-0 in the fourth.
Haynes singled and Taylor had an RBI double. She came around to score when Malone reached on an error.
Deeds then walked and Izzy Kitts unloaded a 3-run homer to cap the rally.
The Lady Hornets created the run rule win with 2 runs in the fifth.
With one out, Haynes singled and Kasey Vanderhoof and Hitchcock followed with back-to-back RBI doubles.
Haynes was 3-3 as Coal Grove had 9 hits. Kitts was 1-3 with a home run and 3 RBI, Vanderhoof 1-3 with a double and RBI, and Hitchcock 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Fairland fell to 0-16 and 0-9 in the OVC.
