Dragons show off balance attack to rout Eagles

RACELAND, Ky. — If Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is back in business, the Fairland Dragons might be able to get a job doing the high wire act.


They showed they have the balance for it.


The Dragons used a balanced offensive attack to roll past the Tri-Cities Christian Eagles 35-6 on Friday at the Raceland Kickoff Classic.


The Dragons (2-1) ran for 154 yards and threw for 124 more for 278 total yards.


Quarterback Kinyon Smith was 9 of 12 passing for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns while running 10 times for 49 yards and a score.


Christian Bompus carried 8 times for 83 yards and a touchdown with Xander Collins rushing 4 times for 22 yards, catching one pass for 33 yards and a score, and he also had an interception.


Kylan Blake caught 4 passes for 54 yards and a score with Ford Rickard getting 3 receptions for 25 yards plus returning an interception for a touchdown.


Tri-Cities (2-3) was held to just 45 yards rushing and 193 total yards. Quarterback Coen Kestner was 7 of 16 passing for 148 yards and a touchdown but he was intercepted twice.


The Dragons jumped in front 14-0 in the first quarter. Smith ran 15 yards for a score and also kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.


Collins had a 33-yard touchdown pass play and Yardley Gorby kicked the first of 4 extra points and it was 14-0.

Bompus had a 3-yard scoring run in the second quarter and it was 21-0.


Blake teamed up with Smith on a 20-yard scoring play in the third quarter and it was 28-0.


Rickard picked off a pass and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown as the lead ballooned to 35-0.


The Eagles avoided the shutout when Kestner hit Dakota Ragle on a 56-yard pass play and it was 35-6.


Pikeville edged Raceland 30-27 in the second game of the Kickoff Classic.


Fairland visits Rock Hill on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
