St Joe's W's provide offensive firepower in win over Pointers

IRONTON — Jack Whaley showed what a senior leader is supposed to do.

Whaley scored two goals and had three assists to help lead the St. Joseph Flyers to a 6-1 soccer win over the South Point Pointers on Saturday.

Barrett Waginger and Mason Weber also scored two goals each for St. Joseph (7-3-1).

Waginger scored the first goal 11 minutes into the game with an assist from Whaley. The tandem teamed up again with 13 minutes left in the half and it was 2-0.

Weber then scored with 10 minutes on the clock with a corner kick assist from Whaley and it was 3-0.

Whaley got an unassisted goal at the 35-minute mark of the second half and it was 4-0.

South Point (4-4) got on the scoreboard when Ezra Young scored an unassisted goal with 30 minutes on the clock and it was 4-1.

The Flyers added two more goals as Whaley scored an unassisted goal with 4 minutes left and Weber connected on a free kick with one minute to play.

The Flyers took 42 shots with 22 on goal. The Pointers took only 6 shots with 4 on goal.

The Flyers host Ironton on Tuesday while South Point entertains Rock Hill on Tuesday.
