Gallia Academy, Jones take top spots in boys OVC golf tournament

McDERMOTT — Showing steady improvement all season, the Gallia Academy Blue Devils capped off that climb by winning the Ohio Valley Conference Golf Tournament on Tuesday at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.

Led by medalist Christopher Conley, Gallia Academy posted a 318 team score to finish ahead of the second-place Fairland Dragons by 14 strokes.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers were third just 4 shots behind Fairland. The Coal Grove Hornets were fourth at 376, the Rock Hill Redmen 421, the Chesapeake Panthers 435, and the South Point Pointers 449.

The Blue Devils’ Cash Jones tied Ironton’s Asher Keyes for second place overall as each shot a 74. All 3 golfers were first team All-OVC.

Fairland had 4 golfers on the All-OVC first team with Reno Roswell carding an 80, Kyle Salyer and Hunter Leep had an 83 each, and Will Southard shot an 86.

The 3 honorable mention golfers were Lane Fallon of Gallia Academy with an 88 while Greyson Diamond of Chesapeake and Aaron Booher of Gallia Academy both shot an 89.
