PT. PLEASANT, W.Va. — The Fairland Dragons’ student section made Friday’s game at Pt. Pleasant “Space Night.”

The Dragons’ celebrated by creating a lot of space on the scoreboard between them and the Big Blacks with a 33-7 win.

Fairland (1-1) racked up 387 total yards including 224 on the ground while limiting Pt. Pleasant to a mere 68 total yards — none passing — and only 4 first downs.

The victory also marked the initial career win for first-year head coach Ron Wooten.

Fairland snapped a scoreless tie late in the first quarter when Kinyon Smith hit Kylan Blake with a flanker screen and wide receivers Ford Rickard and Aiden Trimble gave him a pair of key blocks that resulted in a 61-yard scoring pass.

The conversion failed and it was 6-0.

But the Big Blacks’ Isaiah Waminan returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and the conversion kick gave Pt. Pleasant (0-1) its only lead at 7-6.

The Dragons scored late in the half when Christian Bompus polished off a strong drive as he ran down 10 yards thanks to a seal block by Rickard. The Dragons ran for the conversion to make it 14-7 with 8:14 left in the half.

Pt. Pleasant had put together a possible scoring drive only to have Maddox VonVille intercept a pass at the 17-yard line to end the threat.

Fairland came out after halftime and scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Bompus had an 8-yard scoring run and Collins followed with a 10-yard run.

The Dragons capped off the scoring with 2:15 to play when Smith kept the ball and ran 2 yards for the score and it was 33-14 with 2:15 to play.

The Dragons were led on the ground by Collins with 77 yards on 10 carries and Bompus who had 71 yards on 16 attempts. Both runners had a touchdown.

Smith had a solid all-around game as he hit 14 of 20 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown while also running 12 times for 70 yards and a score.

Blake led the receivers with 2 catches for 60 yards and a touchdown with Collins making 4 receptions for 57 yards.
