Delaney, Drummond help Blue Devils snap Dragons 5-game win streak

PROCTORVILLE — The Gallia Academy Blue Devils kept pace in the race.

Maddux Delaney and Logen Drummond combined on a 3-hitter as the Blue Devils edged the Fairland Dragons 3-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.

The Blue Devils are now 14-6 overall and remain locked in a battle for the league title with Ironton and Portsmouth. Gallia and Ironton are 9-2 and Portsmouth is one-half game ahead at 10-2.

Delaney went 5 innings giving up 3 hits, one earned run with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. Drummond went 2 innings and did not allow a hit or run while striking out one and walking 2.

Drummond was 2-2 at the plate, Brady Conley 2-4 with an RBI, Beckett Camden 1-2 and Nolan Mitchell 1-3.

Josh Gillespie pitched well in taking the loss for Fairland. Gillespie went 6 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 runs of which only one was earned, struck out 4 and walked 3.

Tanner Brown finished and gave up 2 hits, one earned run and had a walk.

Nolan Fleming was 1-2 while Titus Martin and Gillespie each went 1-3 for Fairland (9-8, 7-4).
