FLATWOODS — Maybe 7 isn’t Kaylee Stidham’s lucky number, but it was definitely her number on Saturday.
Stidham — who has caught fire offensively in recent weeks — slugged home run No.7 on the season as the South Point Lady Pointers blanked the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 5-0 on Saturday.
"Kaylee has been on fire the past two weeks," said South Point coach Robert Heaberlin. "In the Gallia game, she came in the bottom of the sixth and hit a grand slam. We've all been hitting well. Kaylee has been really hitting well. Kota has been, I mean everyone has been as of late."
The Lady Pointers took advantage of a miscue from Greenup to break the scoreless tie in the third.
With one out, Cochran reached on a dropped third strike and Kota Copley singled to put two on.
Then with two outs, Stidham smashed a first pitch deep over the left field wall to put South Point on top 3-0.
Stidham went 1-3 with the home run while Kota Copley was 2-4, Raygen Yates 1-3 with a double and RBI, and Chloe West and Brinly Stamper were a break at 1-3.
Kota Copley got the complete game win for South Point (16-6). Copley gave up 6 hits, struck out 4 and did not walk a batter.
"When Kota is on, we can play with just about anybody." said. "I feel like our team feeds off of her. Like, if she's playing well and pitching well, then we hit well. But that's the best defense we've played all year."
The Lady Pointers added insurance runs later in the game, as a fielding error allowed Kota Copley to score in the fourth and Yates doubled in Stidham in the seventh.
The Lady Musketeers’ Laiken Cooper pitched well in taking the loss. She struck out 14, gave up 6 hits, no walks and only one earned run.
Layla Matthews was 2-3 with a double, Maddy Steele 1-3 with a double, and Laiken Cooper, Josey Kegley and Tenley Melvin were all 1-3 for Greenup County (17-7).
