Huge 2nd inning helps Lady Vikings coast past Lady Trojans

PORTSMOUTH — One big inning proved to be big for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings used an 11-run second inning to fuel a 17-7 run rule win over the Portsmouth Lady Trojans in a recent non-league game.

The Lady Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Brenna TIbbs singled, Maci Bland doubled her home, and Marley Ferguson followed with a two-run home run.

Natalie Simpson began the big second inning with a walk, Lydia Saunders singled, a wild pitch moved the runners up, Band reached on an error for a run, Ferguson walked and Kaycee Thompson singled for a run.

Addy Hawk, Simpson, Saunders, Tibbs and Bland all singled, Ferguson doubled and Thompson singled to cap the rally and it was 14-0.

Simpson singled to start the third inning for Symmes Valley and Lydia Fields and TIbbs followed with doubles.

After Portsmouth got a run in the bottom of the third, the Lady Vikings got the run back in the fourth when Ferguson walked, Allie Clay doubled and Ryleigh Skaggs grounded out.

Hawk started and went 4 innings for the win. He gave up 6 hits, 6 earned runs, struck out 2 and walked 3.

The Lady Vikings had 18 hits led by Tibbs who was 3-4 with a double, Ferguson 2-2 with a double, home run and 3 RBI, Bland 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI, Saunders 3-3 with an RBI, Simpson 2-2, Thompson 2-3 with an RBI, Hawk was 2-4 with a double and an RBI, Clay 1-1, Addi Ridenour 1-4, with Waugh and Skaggs each getting an RBI.

Portsmouth was led by Caitlyn Galloway was 3-3 with a double, Karlee Galloway 1-3 with a home run and 2 RBI, Olivia Wells 2-2, and Mia Bolden was 1-2 with an RBI.
