AID — If this was a tune-up for the postseason tournament, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings are starting to click.
Brenna Tibbs pitched a 2-hitter and the Lady Vikings beat the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs 4-2 on Tuesday.
“Lawrence County is one of the top teams in Eastern Kentucky, so that was a good win,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
“Brenna pitched a great game, we got clutch hitting and we had two errors but for the most part we played good defense.”
Tibbs struck out 10, walked 2 and only one of the runs was earned.
The Lady Bulldogs (18-11) went up 1-0 in the second inning when Brinley Baisden walked, stole second, and scored when Gracie Woods reached on an error.
Symmes Valley (23-3) tied the game in the fourth when Kaycee Thompson led off the inning with a solo home run.
The Lady Vikings scored 3 runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Lydia Saunders and Tibbs both walked and Marley Ferguson doubled them home. Thompson singled and Natalie Simpson hit into a force out as Ferguson scored.
The Lady Bulldogs got a run in the sixth when Addalyn Woods doubled and scored on a hit by Emalynn Kitts.
Thompson went 3-for-3 with the home run, Ferguson was 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Addi Ridenour was 1-3.
Woods and Kitts each went 1-3 to account for the Lady Bulldogs hits.
