Tigers can't overcome miscues, hitting woes in loss to Ironmen

JACKSON — It was a post-conference letdown.

After wrapping up a share of the Ohio Valley Conference last week, Ironton traveled to play the Frontier Athletic Conference champion Jackson Ironman on Monday and the Fighting Tigers were not up to championship form in a 6-0 loss.

“Jackson has a good team but we did not execute very well,” said Ironton coach John Hunt.

“We were tentative in our approach in hitting, pitching and defensively which led to walks and called third strikes on our part and a few plays in the field we would normally make.”

Rylan Wyant pitched a 2-hitter for Jackson (19-3) as he struck out 10 and walked 3.

Ryan Seimetz was 2-3 with a triple with an RBI while Brayden Manring and Eli Ray were 2-3 with an RBI.

Jacob Hughes started for Ironton and went 4.2 innings giving up 7 hits, 5 earned runs with 10 strikeouts and 6 walks. Dawson Philyaw finished and gave up 2 hits, no runs, with 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Philyaw was 1-2 and Braydon Baker 1-3 for Ironton (14-5).

A hit by Ray, two walks and an error gave Jackson a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Manring singled, Leighton Camp walked and Ray and Seimetz both singled for two more runs in the second inning.

Singles by Wyant, Corbyn Smalley and Manring produced the final two runs in the fifth inning.
