AID — The pitchers were in the spotlight, but Marley Ferguson was in the starring role.

Ferguson was instrumental in both runs as the Symmes Valley Vikings edged the South Point Lady Pointers 2-1 on Monday.

Ferguson was 2-for-3 including a home run and scored both runs as Symmes Valley improved to 22-3.

The Lady Vikings’ Brenna Tibbs pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 13 batters while walking only one.

South Point’s Kota Copley gave up just 3 hits as she struck out 6 and walked one. Only one run was earned.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Marley Ferguson slugged a one-out solo home run.

South Point (18-9) tied the game in the fifth inning.

Brinly Stamper got a lead-off single, went to second base on a wild pitch, took third on a ground out and scored on a hit by Adyson Copley.

In the top of the seventh, Ferguson led off with a base hit and went to second on a passed ball. Kaycee Thompson walked and an out later Natalie Simpson reached on an error allowing Ferguson to score.

Tibbs retired 6 of the final 7 outs on strikeouts.

Kota Copley was 1-4, Adyson Copley 1-3 with an RBI, Stamper 1-2 and Natilyn Spears 1-3 to account for South Point’s hitting.
