Lady Panthers outlast Lady Dragons in 14-13 scorefest

PROCTORVILLE — There must have been a special deal on runs on Wednesday.

Runs were plentiful as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers outlasted the Fairland Lady Dragons 14-13 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake (6-3, 1-0) had 13 hits with Khloe Walters going 3-3 with two runs batted in, Kayden Easthom 3-5 with an RBI, K.J. Kaydence 3-5 with an RBI, K.J. Collins 2-5 with a double.

Haylee Lafon got the win as she gave up seven hits and just two earned runs. Lafon also got the win as she allowed just two earned runs to go with six strikeouts and five walks.

Fairland (1-6, 0-2) was paced by Maddie Cornwell who was 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and Aubree Cyrus who went 3-3  with a double and two RBI.

Taegen Leep was 1-3 with a triple and three runs batted in. Aubrey Hayes and Aubrey Cyrus each drove in two runs while Ava Thacker was 1-4 with a double and RBI, and Raelynn Barker Chapman was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Lady Dragons led 13-10 after five innings but the Lady Panthers put together a 4-run rally in the top of the seventh and they took a 14-13 lead.

The game was marred by 18 errors that led to a total of 19 unearned runs being scored. Chesapeake had 8 errors and Fairland committed 10.
