Lady Vikings split Saturday's games to close out Valley of Thunder showcase

AID — The record says the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings lost two of their three games this weekend during the 26th Valley of Thunder Softball Showcase.

But when sizing up the competition for the Division 7 Lady Vikings who were playing much larger teams, Symmes Valley found some wins that don’t show up in the standings.

The Hilliard Bradley Lady Jaguars took a 5-2 lead early and went on to get a 6-3 win.

Bradley scored four in the first inning on singles by Mickey Moody and Lainey Dennison, an error and a double by Taylor Nicholson that had an error on the hit and allowed the final run to score.

The Lady Vikings cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning.

Tibbs was safe on an error, Ferguson hit into a fielder’s choice with both runners safe, Bland singled for a run and she scored when Addi Ridenour drew a bases-loaded walk.

Bradley got a run in the second when Sammie Moody singled, moved up on a wild pitch and a throwing error and scored on Mickey Moody’s sacrifice fly.

The Lady Vikings got a run in the fifth when Tibbs singled, stole second and scored on Bland’s base hit.

The Lady Jaguars final run scored in the seventh when Nicholson singled and Sophie Lopez doubled.

Tibbs took the loss as she gave up nine hits and four earned runs while striking out seven and walking two.

Mickey Moody went four innings to get the win with Lucy Bennett going the final three innings for the save.

Moody gave up one hit and two unearned runs while striking out four with one walk. Bennett allowed two hits, one earned run, with four strikeouts and one walk.

Bland was 2-3 with two RBI for the Lady Vikings.

Symmes Valley 11, Northwestern 3

After two tough losses, the Lady Vikings took out their frustrations on the Northwestern Lady Huskies with a 16-hit attack that produced an 11-3 win.

Northwestern (1-4) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on hits by Brooke Bittle, Arayah Nussbaum, Madi Smith and Kelsee Smith.

The Lady Vikings (6-2) got a run in the bottom of the inning when Ferguson cranked another solo home run.

The Lady Huskies went up 3-1in the top fourth on a hit batter, an error and a sacrifice fly by Laci Butler.

But the Lady Vikings answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Addy Hawk was hit by a pitch, Addi Ridenour hit into a force out, Allie Clay singled, Lydia Saunders walked, Tibbs singled, Ferguson doubled, Bland walked and Thompson singled to cap the rally.

The lead went to 10-3 in the fifth inning.

Hawk and Ridenour singled and Saunders was hit by a pitch. Tibbs singled and both Ferguson and Bland doubled.

The final Symmes Valley run scored in the sixth on singles by Hawk, Clay and Tibbs.

Hawk went the distance to get the win. She allowed six hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks.

Ferguson was 3-4 with a double, a home run and six runs batted in while Tibbs was 3-5 with a double and four RBI to pace the offense.

Bland was 3-3 with a double and an RBI, Thompson was 2-4, Hawk 2-3, Clay 2-4 and Ridenour 1-3.
