Pitching duo throws 3-hitter as Dragons beat Pioneers

PROCTORVILLE — Not many runs and not many hits, but it was one big win for the Fairland Dragons.
In a game that had only six hits, Fairland got its first win of the season by beating the Wayne Pioneers 4-1 in a non-league game on Friday.
Josh Gillespie and Noah Fleming combined on a three-hitter for the Dragons. Gillespie went five innings for the win as he gave up all three hits, one unearned run with five strikeouts and no walks.
Fleming recorded the save as he went two innings without allowing a baserunner to go with three strikeouts.
Chance Adkins and Jackson Graybeal teamed up to allow just three hits, two earned runs with eight strikeouts and four walks.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Dragons (1-3) got all four of their runs.
Landon Evans walked, Jack Chapman singled and Maddox Vonville reached on an error to load the bases.
Chase Lapole was hit by a pitch to force in a run and Josh Gillespie singled to drive in two runs. An error of the play scored a third run.
The Pioneers (2-6) got their run in the fourth inning when Avery Nicely reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a hit by Landon Adkins and scored when Colten Heck grounded out.
Gillespie was 2-2 with two runs batted in and Chapman was 1-3 for Fairland.
Jacob Thompson, Hodge and Adkins all went 1-3 for Wayne.
