Lady Vikings, Tibbs get best of Lady Pointers in pitching showdown

AID — In a battle between two of the area’s premier pitchers, it was a third baseman who made the difference.

Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ Brenna Tibbs pitched a one-hitter in a 7-0 win over the South Point Lady Pointers.

While Tibbs was locked up against the Lady Pointers’ Kota Copley, Lady Vikings’ third baseman Marley Ferguson went 2-2 with a home run and double and drove in three runs.

“We beat a good team and a good pitcher,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “Tibbs pitched a super game and we had some big hits. Maci Bland and Marley Ferguson both peppered the ball pretty good.”

Tibbs struck out 12 and walked only one batter to get the complete game win. Copley pitched a complete game giving up 8 hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Tibbs was 2-4, Maci Bland 3-4 with two RBI, and Lydia Saunders was 1-2 for Symmes Valley (5-0).

The Lady Pointers (5-2) only hit was by Kaitlyn Evans who went 1-2 as she singled with one out in the third inning.

The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Tibbs reached on an error, Bland singled, Ferguson walked, a wild pitch scored Tibbs and Kaycee Thompson grounded out for an RBI.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second when Ferguson drilled a home run after Tibbs singled and Bland doubled.

Symmes Valley got its final two runs in the fourth inning on singles by Saunders, Tibbs and Bland and a double by Ferguson.
