FLATWOODS, Ky. — Extra innings. Extra drama. Extra satisfaction for a win.

A clutch run-scoring double by Grayson Fisher in the 10th inning gave the Russell Red Devils a 5-4 win over the Greenup County Musketeers Monday in a 63rd District game.

In the 10th inning, Jayden Frasure beat out a base hit in the hole at shortstop to start the inning. Griffin Fisher put down a sacrifice bunt that put Frasure in scoring position at second base.

The right-handed hitting Fisher came up and was looking at an 0-2 count when he hit a long fly ball to right field that sailed over the rightfielder’s outstretched glove for a double as Frasure raced across home plate to end the game.

Russell (15-6) took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and chased Greenup starter Hunter Holbrook after just two-thirds of an inning of work.

Gunnar Hignite got a leadoff double just inside the left field foul line. Layne Paxson walked, Dawson Wada was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Lokelio Ancheta hit into a force play at second to score Hignite but the relay throw to first base was wild allowing Paxson to score.

Ancheta moved to second on a wild pitch, Hayden McGowan followed with a walk, and Ancheta stole third base and was able to score as the throw went into left field.

The Red Devils got a run in the fourth to go up 4-0 as Ancheta tripled to right-center and he scored when McGowan’s ground ball was thrown away at first base.

Greenup County (12-10) rallied for three runs in the fourth.

Luke Boggs singled to start the inning and a wild pitch advanced courtesy runner Landen Rowe to second. An out later, Holbrook walked and Kasey Gammon doubled down the left field line for an RBI.

Gage Lamarque singled to drive in two runs and it was 4-3.

The Musketeers tied the game in the sixth inning.

Gavin Roy hit a deep ball to right field for a hit but Russell right fielder Ancheta threw a strike to second base to get the out.

But Greenup quickly regrouped as Holbrook doubled deep to right-center. Gammon reached on an error and went to second on defensive indifference and Lamarque grounded out to shortstop as Holbrook scored to tie the game.

The game remained scored the next three innings until Russell put together the winning rally in the 10th.

Groves got the win with 6 innings of relief work. He gave up 5 hits, one unearned run with 2 strikeouts and one walk. Jacob Tolliver started and went 4 innings giving up 4 hits, 3 earned runs with 2 strikeouts and a walk.

Kiser and Ancheta were both 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Wada was 2-3.

Gammon took the loss as he worked the final 3.1 innings giving up 3 hits, one earned run with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Howard worked 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits, one earned run with 2 strikeouts and no walks. Holbrook gave up 3 earned run, struck out 2 and no walks

Holbrook was 2-3 with 2 stolen bases to lead Greenup.
