Trojans blank Dragons to keep pace in OVC race

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Trojans beat the Fairland Dragons 10-0 and kept pace in the race.
Portsmouth (8-5) is tied for the lead in the Ohio Valley Conference with Ironton and Gallia Academy at 6-1. Ironton plays at Portsmouth on Friday.
Fairland (5-8, 3-4) was plagued by 6 errors. Pitchers Josh Gillespie and Nolan Fleming only allowed 4 earned runs.
Leelind Scurlock got the win as he struck out 7, walked 2 and gave up 5 hits.
Owen Wells was 3-3 with an RBI to pace Portsmouth. Jacob Roth was 2-3 with a triple and an RBI, Trevin Brooks 1-3 with a double and an RBI, Eli Roth 1-2 and Camron Williams 1-3.
The Dragons trailed just 2-0 going into the bottom of the third but some untimely errors allowed the Trojans finally blow the game open.
Back-to-back singles from Roth and Malone led off the inning. Malone later stole second to put runners on second and third with one out.
An error allowed Roth to score from third and another error on a sacrifice bunt allowed Brooks to reach base and score Malone.
Brooks would steal third, however a throwing error allowed Brooks to score and make it 5-0.
