Lady Vikings roll past Northwest to clinch SOC-2 title

AID — Go ahead and make up another Southern Ohio Conference championship banner.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings rolled past the Northwest Lady Mohawks 10-1 on Monday to clinch the conference softball title. The Lady Vikings are 17-2 overall and 8-0 with a three game lead and only two league games remaining.

“One of our goals we set every year is to win the conference and we’ve accomplished that,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“We want to keep playing well and keep winning. We have more goals ahead of us and now we can focus on them. This is a great bunch of girls who really work hard and play as a team.”

Brenna Tibbs pitched a 3-hitter as she struck out 11 and did not walk a batter. The only run was unearned.

Tibbs went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI, Bland was 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, Kaycee Thompson was 1-4 with a double, Alyssa Waugh 1-4, Addy Hawk 1-3 with a home run and an RBI, Addi Ridenour 1-3, Natalie Simpson 2-3 with a double and RBI, and Lydia Saunders 2-3 with an RBI.

Symmes Valley took a 1-0 led in the first when Tibbs got a leadoff triple and Bland singled her home.

A run scored in the second on a double by Simpson and a hit by Saunders.

The Lady Viking erupted for 6 runs in the fourth inning to go up 8-0.

Hawk led off the inning with a home run. Ridenour, Simpson, Saunders and Tibbs all singled, Marley Ferguson reached on an error, Thompson drilled a double and Waugh singled.

Northwest (7-8, 3-4) got its lone run in the fifth inning when Kamryn Journey singled, went to third on an error and scored on a ground out.

The Lady Vikings added a pair of runs in the sixth when Bland slammed a home run following a walk to Tibbs.
