AID — Good pitching and a third inning rally proved to be the right mix for the Vikings and give the Symmes Valley a 4-2 win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Wednesday.

The Vikings were led offensively by their senior duo of Will Jones and Braden Hankins. Jones finished 2-of-4 at the plate and Hankins went 2-3 including a double and an RBI. Andy Strow went 1-2 with an RBI and Tanner Corn went 1-3 with an RB.

Gradee Holland pitched a complete game for the Vikings to earn the win. Holland gave up four hits, an earned run, and struck out two.

The Redmen got on the board in the first inning.

Dawson Lewis and Logan Hopper reached base to begin the inning. A batter later, Drew Schug singled into right field to give Rock Hill its first run. Carson Doolin followed with a sacrifice fly to score another and the Redmen held a 2-0 lead after one.

Holland and the defense would shutdown the Redmen offense from that point, allowing just two baserunners over the last six innings.

Symmes Valley rallied in the third to take the lead for good.

The Vikings were able to load the bases with one out and got their first run when Tanner Thompson stole home. Then Corn followed with a ground out RBI and Hankins singled to bring home another and give the Vikings a 3-2 lead.

The Vikings added an insurance run in the fourth when Thompson drew a walk and reached third after a base hit from Jones and an error in the field. Then Strow slapped a single into left to score Thompson.

The offense did its job and the defense put the game to rest.

Holland retired nine-straight batters in the final three innings to secure the win.

Braylon McClellan took the loss for Rock Hill surrendering six hits, four earned runs and striking out four batters in four innings of work.

Lewis went 2-3, McClellan went 1-3, Schug went 1-3 with an RBI, and Doolin had an RBI for Rock Hill.
