Lady Vikings shake off rust with win over Lady Indians

LUCASVILLE — It was back to work and it turned out to be business as usual.
After opening the season with two wins a week ago, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were able to get back on the softball field and beat the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians 9-2 on Saturday.
Brenna Tibbs pitched a 3-hitter as she struck out 11, walked one and only one run was earned.
“We haven’t played for a week so it was good to see how well we played,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “Tibbs pitched really well and she was hitting her spots. We hit the ball really well. We had seven different players get hits.”
Symmes Valley (3-0) got two runs in the second inning when Alyssa Waugh doubled, Addi Ridenour reached on an error, Lydia Saunders walked and Tibbs singled.
The Lady Vikings got what proved to be the winning run in the third when Marley Ferguson singled, moved up on a ground out and scored on a hit by Natalie Simpson.
The lead went to 4-0 in the fourth when Lydia Saunders, Maci Bland and Kaycee Thompson all singled.
Lucasville Valley (2-3) got its two runs in the fifth and trailed 4-2.
Laylee McGraw singled, Izabella Bray tripled and an error scored Bray.
The Lady Vikings blew the game open with five runs in the seventh.
Waugh singled, Simpson and Ridenour both reached on a fielder’s choice, Saunders walked, Tibbs doubled, Bland singled and Ferguson doubled.
The Lady Vikings had 12 hits with Bland going 3-5 with 3 RBI, Tibbs 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI, Ferguson 2-5 with a double and RBI, Waugh 2-3 with a double, Saunders 1-2, Simpson 1-4 with an RBI and Thompson 1-5.
