Dragons fall in opener to Rams

RACELAND, Ky. — The second inning proved to be the tipping point for both the Fairland Dragons and Raceland Rams on Friday night, as the Rams used the big inning to take control and go on to win 12-2 in five innings at the Raceland Baseball Complex.


After falling behind 2-0, the Dragons threatened to get on the board in the second inning.


Cyrus Cummings drew a walk and Eli Pine reached base on infield error. Then Landon Evans mvoed the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt.


Then with two outs, an errant throw towards third on a pick off play sailed down the left field line and Cummings scored to cut the Rams lead down to one.


Karson Clay retired the next batter on a strikeout to end the threat.


In the bottom of the frame, the Rams took control of the game with four runs.


Michael Pennington slugged a 2-2 pitch off the right-center fence for a triple to lead off and scored on a bunt by Sam Lynd.


With two outs, Landon Bloss drove a single back up the middle to score Lynd. Then Brigham Davidson drove another pitch back up the middle to score Bloss from second.


Davidson scored on a pass ball to put the Rams ahead 6-1.


Fairland was limited to four hits with Chase Lapole 2-for-3 with two doubles, Josh Gillespie -2 and Nolan Fleming 1-3 with a run batted in.


Raceland (5-0) banged out 14 hits with Davidson going 3-4 with two RBI, Parker Ison 2-2 with a double and two RBI, Gunnar Smithy 2-4, Bloss 1-3 with an RBI, Pennington 1-3 with a triple, Lynd 1-1 with an RBI, Cade Coldiron 1-4 with two RBI, Caden Smith 1-1, Aidan Shaffer 1-3 and Grayden Floyd had an RBI.


Clay went 3 innings for the win as he gave up two hits, one unearned run with three strikeouts and two walks.
