Lady Dragons kickoff season within over Lady Rebels

PROCTORVILLE — Maddie Short made short work of the South Gallia Lady Rebels.

Short pitched a two-hitter as the Fairland Lady Dragons blanked South Gallia 14-0 in a five-inning run rule win to open the softball season on Monday.

Short struck out 7 and didn’t allow a walk as she got the complete game win.

Fairland pounded out 10 hits with Maddie Cornwell going 3-for-3 with a run batted in to lead the offense.

Aubrey Hayes was 2-4 with 3 RBI, Aubree Cyrus was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Raelynn Barker was 1-3 with 2 RBI, Taegan Leep went 1-2 with a pair of RBI, and Emmy Brown was 1-3.

Bayleigh Waterhouse and Chloe Halley each went 1-2 for South Gallia (0-1).

Fairland hosted Russell, Ky., on Tuesday, and Wayne, W.Va. on Thursday.
