PT. PLEASANT, W.Va. — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings weren’t in midseason form, but it sure seemed like it.

The Lady Vikings pitchers combined to give up just two unearned runs and three hits as they opened the season with a 5-0 win over the Spring Valley Lady Timberwolves and 7-2 over the Pt. Pleasant Lady Knights.

“I thought we played well for the amount of time we’ve been able to work on the field,” said Lady Viking’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Addy Hawk beat Spring Valley as she went the distance allowing two hits, striking out 11 and walking 3. Brenna Tibbs gave up only one hit as she threw a complete game. Tibbs struck out 11 and walked seven as the Lady Vikings beat Pt. Pleasant.

“The pitching was good. The two runs we gave up were on walks and errors. We only gave up three total hits. I was pleased for the first time out.”

The Lady Vikings had 10 hits against Spring Valley with Tibbs going 2-3 with a double, triple and an RBI. Marley Ferguson was 2-3, Alyssa Waugh 2-3 with an RBI, Macie Bland 1-3 with 2 RBI, Kaycee Thompson 1-3 while Lydia Saunders and Hawk were 1-2.

“We hit some shots. We could have had more hits but we hit a lot of balls right at them,” said Estep.

The Lady Vikings scored all their runs against Spring Valley in the first two innings.

Tibbs led off the first inning with a triple and Bland singled her home.

Marley Ferguson had a single and Waugh doubled in Bland. Simpson followed with a sacrifice fly.
