Allen, Woods keep Lady Trojans rolling into district finals

WAVERLY — The Portsmouth Lady Trojans may have started really slow, but it didn’t take them long to make it up.

While neither team scored for just over two minutes to start the game, Portsmouth then erupted and went on to rout the Adena Lady Warriors 73-19 in the Division 5 district semifinals on Saturday at the Waverly Downtown Arena.

“Sometimes you have these kinds of games. We just weren’t totally focused and ready to play, but our defense picked us up and got us going,” said Portsmouth coach Amy Hughes.

After the slow start, Sienna Allen scored 11 points including a 3-pointer and Keke Woods had 8 points as Portsmouth went on a 23-0 run.

Marly Holcomb sank two foul shots for Adena with 24 seconds left on the clock and it was 23-2 at the end of the quarter.

Woods scored 10 points in the second quarter as Portsmouth extended its lead to 43-7 at the half.

Four different players scored in the third quarter for the Lady Trojans who held Adena to just one field goal in the quarter and it was 55-10.

Salem Allen hit a triple and scored 7 points, Sky Mays had a pair of 3-pointers and Bry Shannon hit a trey and scored 5 points in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Trojans (18-4) had four players in double figures led by Woods with 20 points. Sienna Allen scored 15 while Salem Allen and Carter scored 10 each.

Portsmouth will play at noon next Saturday in the district finals at the Waverly Downtown Arena.
