Redmen cash in at foul line to complete comeback win over Hornets

PEDRO — The free throw attempts are free. Missing them is costly.
In a game determined by free throws, the Rock Hill Redmen rallied from an early deficit to edge the Coal Grove Hornets 55-51 in an Ohio Valley Conference game Saturday afternoon.
For the game, Rock Hill connected on 16 of 22 free throw attempts and Coal Grove was a mere 5 of 18.
Coal Grove took a 14-3 first quarter as Caden Turner hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Braydon Klaiber added 4 more and Rylan Smith knocked down a trifecta.
But in the second quarter, Rock Hill bounced back and cut the deficit to 25-22 at the half.
Kelan Davidson knocked down a triple and scored 9 points while Rylan Barker hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Redmen outscored Coal Grove 19-11.
Bronson Guy drilled a 3-pointer and sank a pair of free throws while Ayden Hankins scored 4 points for the Hornets.
Coal Grove went cold in the third quarter with just 6 points and the Redmen were able to take a 34-31 lead.
Barker got 5 points including a triple and Jarrod Bridges also hit a 3-pointer for the Redmen.
Four shooting was a big factor in the fourth quarter that helped determine the outcome.
Rock Hill converted 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter while Coal Grove was just 1-of-6.
Bridges scored 8 points as he went 2 of 2 at the line, Barker had a trey and was 2 of 2 from the line while Yaden Bailey added 5 points including a 3-pointer.
Guy buried a pair of 3-pointers and scored 9 points for the Hornets with Smith hitting a 3-pointer as he scored 5 points.
Barker and Bridges scored 16 points each to lead the Redmen (6-11, 2-8) with Davidson adding 11 points.
Coal Grove (5-12, 1-9) was led by Guy with 17 points and Smith scored 10.
