Ironton rolls past Red Raiders, 58-0

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — The Ironton Fighting Tigers took a long ride, but they made short work of the Uniontown Red Raiders.
Ironton ran just 10 plays in the first half but still built a 44-0 lead and went on to rout the Red Raiders 58-0 on Saturday.
In addition to their quick offensive scoring drives, Zayne Williams ran just 3 times for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns while Kayden Edwards ran twice for 64 yards and a score and also completed 4-of-5 passes for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Ironton had 190 yards rushing and 136 passing for a 326 total. Conversely, the Fighting Tigers’ defense held Uniontown (2-5) to minus 23 yards of total offense including a minus-28 yards rushing.
The Red Raiders had only one positive offensive play in the first half as Tayshawn Jackson ran for 3 yards on their first series of downs. Uniontown had only 2 positive plays in the second half.
The game was played with a running clock starting in the second quarter with Ironton leading 30-0.

The Fighting Tigers got the ball to start the game and on the third play Edwards took off and ran 39 yards for the touchdown and Beckham Waginger kicked the first of 8 conversions and it was 7-0 with 11:14 on the clock.
After a punt, Ironton had the ball at the Red Raiders’ 29. Williams ran 13 yards but fumbled the ball fighting extra yardage and Braydon Baker picked up the ball and went the final 16 yards for the touchdown and it was 14-0.
Ironton forced another punt and Ayden Justice blocked the kick and the ball went out of the end zone for a safety and Ironton led 16-0 with 6 minutes on the clock.
The Fighting Tigers got the ball at their own 45 and Edwards completed passes of 13 yards to Brycen Mullins and a 42-yard pop pass to Baker for the score and it was 23-0.
The lead went to 30-0 on Ironton’s next possession when Edwards connected with Tyson Harvey on a 53-yard catch and run for the touchdown with 1:31 left in the quarter.
Ashton Taylor got his first career interception on the Red Raiders second down play and Ironton had the ball at its own 45.
On the next play, Williams blasted through the Uniontown defense as he went the distance and the lead was now 37-0.
The Red Raiders were backed up on the 8-yard line when they were forced to punt and Mullins returned the kick 18 yards to the 18. Edwards threw 13 yards to Jacob Hughes and then Williams ran the final 5 yards to make it 44-0 with 2:12 left in the half.
The jayvees took over in the second half and Kayden Madden recovered a fumble on the kickoff and Ironton had the ball at the 30-yard line.
Nine plays later, quarterback Wyatt Wolfe scored from 4 yards out on a fourth-and-goal to make it 51-0.
Uniontown turned the ball over on downs and at its own 38 and a 15-yard run by Braylon Knipp and an 11-yard run by Ayden Justice set up a one-year scoring run by Knipp with 2:50 to play.
Ironton will host Fairland on Friday.
