Vikings roll past Titans, one step closer to undefeated regular season

PORTSMOUTH — One more step.

The Symmes Valley Vikings have their eyes fixed on an unbeaten regular season and need just one more win to achieve the milestone after blanking the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 47-0 in a Southern Ohio-1 Conference game on Friday.

Symmes Valley is 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Southern Ohio Conference-1, good for first place.

The Vikings high-powered offense continued to roll, led by the passing game as quarterback Bronx Carpenter was 19 of 30 for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns. Asher Maynard was the running game with 10 carries for 108 yards and 3 TDs.

Six different receivers caught passes  and Andrew Isaacs caught 4 passes for 108 yards. Levi Russell had 2 grabs for 70 yards and a score, Beckham Roth got 4 receptions for 5 yards and a score, and Jackson Fields had a big game with 6 catches for 47 yards and 2 went for touchdowns.

The Vikings jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and it was 27-0 by halftime.

Maynard pounded his way through the Titans’ defense for an 8-yard scoring run. Miquel Ferreira kicked the extra points and it was 8-0.

The lead quickly went to 14-0 as Carpenter clicked with Beckham Roth on a 43-yard scoring strike.

It was the Jackson Fields show in the second quarter as he caught touchdown passes of 15 and one-yard. Ferreira connected on the first score while the second touchdown failed.

Maynard 23-yard run for a score in the third quarter that sent the lead at 33-0. The Vikings then stretched the lead as Carpenter hit Russell on a 47-yard. Ferreira's kick conversional and it was 40-0.

Maynard got the final score as he ran 5 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Ferreira kicked the conversion.

Notre Dame (4-5, 1-3) was led by quarterback Warren Kelly who completed 14 of 25 passes for 89 yards. The Titans were limited to 47 total net yards of offense.

This Friday, the Vikings will host rival South Gallia in the regular season finale.
