Rock Hill boys, Fairland girls take OVC cross country championships

The Rock Hill Redmen and Fairland Lady Dragons were on the run.

Both Rock Hill and Fairland ran their way to Ohio Valley Conference cross country championships on Saturday in the league meet.

Rock Hill had just 34 points to win by just 6 points over the Gallia Academy Blue Devils.

Nixon Snavely won the individual championship as the Ohio State Buckeyes commit ran a time of 16:02.61 ahead of J.J. Percell of Portsmouth with a time of 16:55.40.

On the girls' side, Fairland had 20 points and the Gallia Academy Blue Angels had 42.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers' Marlena McCown came away with the individual championship as she ran a 20:38.07 time while Savannah Schuldt of Gallia was second at 21:14.52.

Joining Snavely and Percell on the All-OVC team were Ryan Riddle of Rock Hill, Seth Hamm of Coal Grove, Logan Duvendeck of Ironton, Isaiah Robinson of Chesapeake, Reid Click of Portsmouth and Lane Shaffer, Nick Barnes and RIley Kuhn of Gallia Academy.

McCown was first and teammate Emily Nichols was 10th to bookend the league picks.

The other All-OVC members were Schuldt, Ryan Purcell of Portsmouth and the rest of the honorees were all from Fairland: Lola Donahue, Bailey Russell, Molly Dunlap, Stella Whitley, Kandace Ulrich and Meredith Dunlap.

The top 10 finishers were named All-OVC.
