MINFORD — The St. Joseph Flyers stayed in the Southern Ohio Conference, but they played a little higher as they faced the SOC-2 league champion Minford Falcons on Thursday.

Minford showed why they were the bigger school division champions this season with a 4-1 soccer win over the Flyers.

Minford (14-1-1) scored 3 minutes into the game as Colby Mullens got a goal with an assist from Gabe Turner.

The Falcons didn’t score again until 20 minutes later when Tyce Cron used a pass from Ashton Reeder to score and it was 2-0.

Bryson Culbertson got a pair of unassisted goals with 11 and 9 minutes left in the half to cap the Minford scoring.

The Flyers (9-5-2) came out and scored quickly in the second half as Beckham Waginger converted a corner kick from Jack Whaley at the 37-minute mark.

But the Flyers were unable to generate any more goals against the Falcons’ defense.

Flyers’ goalkeeper Peyton Ford had 9 saves.

St. Joseph played Eastern Brown on Saturday and will host New Boston in an SOC-1 game on Saturday, Oct. 17.
