Dominant 1st quarter sparks Panthers past Pointers

CHESAPEAKE — When the other team doesn’t score, you don’t lose too many.

Taking advantage of a scoreless first quarter by South Point, the Chesapeake Panthers coasted to a 58-32 Ohio Valley Conference win on Saturday.

Maddox Kazee hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points and Karson Frecka had 5 points as Chesapeake took a 17-0 first quarter lead.

Things didn’t get better for the Pointers in the second quarter as Kaden Perkins and Frecka scored 6 points each and Andrew Isaacs had all 4 of his points while the defense held the Pointers to 9 points and it was 33-9 at the half.

Perkins, Kazee and Frecka scored 4 points each in the third quarter and the lead grew to 46-23.

Six different players scored for the Pointers in the quarter who scored 14 as a team.

Frecka and Kazee scored 4 points each in the fourth quarter as the two teams began to substitute.

Frecka scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Panthers (7-1, 2-1). Kazee finished with 15 and Perkins had 14 points.

James Carey and Davon Lewis had 6 points each for the Pointers (3-5, 1-2).
