COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ offense just wasn’t right.
Fortunately, Jenna Anson had the right answer.
Anson scored 23 points as the Lady Hornets beat the South Point Lady Pointers 38-29 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
“We got our offense back on track in the middle two quarters. We were out of sync in that first quarter,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller.
South Point jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game before Anson made back-to-back baskets and it was 6-4.
With Samiya Bradburn scoring 4 points and both Peyton Williams and Amaya Ellis netting 2 points, South Point led 8-4 at the end of the quarter.
Emma Lively hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points in the second quarter as Coal Grove rallied to take a 17-13 halftime lead.
“South Point came out with great energy early and gave us their best shot. We settled in and got the lead going into the fourth quarter,” said Miller.
“We need to finish better. We played like we were behind in the last quarter.”
Anson got 9 points in the third quarter including 3 of 3 at the line and Coal Grove led 30-21.
Anson scored all 8 of Coal Grove’s points in the fourth quarter.
Lively finished with 11 points for Coal Grove (11-3, 5-2).
Bradburn scored 13 points for the Lady Pointers (3-11, 1-8).
