CHESAPEAKE — Hmmm. Maybe we should try more of that running the ball thing. After losing at Coal Grove last week when the Hornets didn’t throw a pass, the Fairland Dragons went with their running game as they beat the rival Chesapeake Panthers 34-17 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday. PEDRO — Eight was enough. It had been 8 years since the last Ohio Valley Conference championship for the Coal Grove Hornets, but that changed this season as they completed an unbeaten league record in claiming their first football title since 2017. Coal Grove beat the Rock Hill Redmen 26-7 on Friday to finish the regular season 8-2 including 6-0 in the OVC. CROWN CITY — Layne Wright's 2-point conversion run capped off a last-minute drive for South Gallia, as the Symmes Valley Vikings fell to the Rebels 38-36 in the regular season finale on Friday night. Symmes Valley finishes the season 8-2 overall. South Gallia finishes with a record of 7-3. The win by the Rebels also created a 3-way tie for second place in the Southern Ohio Conference-1 standings between Symmes Valley, South Gallia and Notre Dame with identical records of 3-2.

SOUTH POINT — The Gallia Academy Blue Devils built a big first quarter lead and went on to beat the South Point Pointers 34-7 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
