Morehead, Ky. — The Knights of
Kentucky Christian University were one minute away from the
first varsity win in the team's brief history.

That was
until Pikeville College quarterback connected with Nick
Jamerson on a 13-yard touchdown pass in the closing seconds
of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 14 apiece.
KCU took the
first possession of the overtime period, and quickly marched
in to scoring position. Quarterback Ricky Phillips moved the
Knights inside the five yard line on a scramble, but a
fumble on the next play gave the ball back to the Bears with
a chance to win the game.
On the first
play of Pikeville's possession, Bears' quarterback Dan
Wideman ran up the left sideline for a a 25-yard touchdown
to put the final score at 20-14. Wideman finished with 98
yards on 16 rush attempts, to go with 312 yards through the
air on 26 completions.
KCU was led
by Beau Dailey, who passed for 161 yards and a touchdown to
running back Ronnie Smith on 14-24 passing. Smith also added
35 yards on the ground on seven carries. The Knights rushing
attack was led by Jake Hughes, who rushed for 81 yards on 21
carries.
The Knights
will travel to face Georgetown before hosting the team's
next home game against Trinity Bible College. Kickoff for
that game will be at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at
South Point High School. |
